Logo for Fuel

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Our youth group at church is going through some changes. We have a great new youth pastor, Doug, and we will soon have a new building just for the youth, called “The Hangar.” In addition Nexus Student Ministries, what we used to be called, is no more. Instead we are Firewheel Student Ministries, and it is broken up into two groups; Fuel, which is Jr. High, and Amp’d, which is Sr. High.

Doug asked if I could work on some logo designs. So far I have created one for Fuel.

Fuel

I haven’t come up with anything for Amp’d, that one is a bit trickier…

Starbucks offering $2 afternoon drink

Wednesday, August 06, 2008

Starbucks announced it will offer its morning customers (that is, you have to buy a full-priced drink in the morning) a grande iced-coffee of their choice for $2 after 2pm the day of the morning purchase.

This promotion was originally offered in Seattle, Chicago and Miami, but has, as of Tuesday, gone nationwide.

I think that is a pretty good deal, and it runs ‘til September 2nd.

iTunes feature suggestion: tabbed browsing

Sunday, August 03, 2008

I remember reading awhile back that Apple legal is notoriously nasty when it comes to people sending in ideas for new products and/or product improvements, so I’m probably NOT going to submit this on to them. In all likelihood we will all see/enjoy this feature in future iterations of the iTunes Music Store.

I would just like to be able to browse content on the store, and if my wife asks me to look something up for her, open up a new tab, find what she is looking for, and after click on my tab and be right back where I left off. Its really a simple concept, and one I am sure Apple could implement, as it has in Safari. I’m actually surprised they haven’t yet!

I quickly threw together a mockup in photoshop:

Cover art for Firewheel Worship

Friday, July 25, 2008

The worship pastor at my church, Steven Polk, is working on a worship album along with several members of the band. I haven’t had a chance to hear any of it yet, but considering how awesome our worship is on Sunday mornings, I know it is going to be an amazing production!

A couple of days ago Steven sent out his usual email to the media/worship teams, but also included a progress report on the project, as well as a design that he had come up for it.

I don’t want to sound insulting, or to hurt my pastor’s feelings in any way, but I just didn’t feel that his design really captured what this project could/should be. So I decided to design my own, and then pitch it to him. Luckily he very much liked it, and after a couple rounds of revisions I think we have a polished and very professional looking cover.

I was inspired by Apple’s iTunes ad featuring Coldplay where they sing “Viva la Vida.” I think I’m on a Coldplay kick right now!

My Favorite iTunes ad

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

There are very few people that I have talked to that are not familiar with Apple’s iTunes advertisements. I am of course referring to the silhouetted dancers/singers ones. Way back when, when Apple first started this campaign it was just a solid color background, and solid black silhouetted people, usually holding a white iPod with white earbuds.

Over the years these ads have become more refined and with much more detail. Multicolored, and highly detailed backgrounds and figures have appeared.

The most recent ad, that I know of, was done in collaboration with Coldplay, and I have to say, it is my favorite ad of this type that Apple has yet to produce.

If you want to see a higher quality version of the video you’ll need to hunt it down on Apple’s website.
